COVER YOUR LOAD!

Remember: It’s the Law

Fairfield Township Ordinance 3-6.9

Uncovered Vehicles. It shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be driven, moved, stopped or parked, on any highway unless such a vehicle is constructed or loaded to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping therefrom. Any person operating a vehicle from which any glass or objects have fallen or escaped, which could cause an obstruction, damage a vehicle, or otherwise endanger travelers or public property, shall immediately cause the public property to be cleaned of all glass or objects and shall pay the costs therefore.

Prevent Accidental Litter and Roadway Accidents

Help keep our roads clean and litter-free by securely covering your truck and trailer beds with a tarp to prevent accidental litter from blowing out and escaping

“COVER YOUR LOAD” Tips from Fairfield Township Code Enforcement Office

    • Use a tarp large enough to completely cover your trailer or truck bed-a minimum of four inches should overlap the sides, front, and back of your load-tarps can be purchased from home supply, farm supply, and many general retailers.
    • Tightly secure the tarp with ropes and/or bungee cords.
    • Put lighter weight items at the bottom of the load.
    • Don’t overload – keep material level with the truck bed or trailer.
    • When transporting large items, make sure they are tied down and secured to the truck or trailer so they don’t move.
    • A tarp is not required if the debris is completely enclosed by a load-carrying compartment.
    • Before leaving the convenience center, remove and properly dispose of any loose material that may remain in the trailer or truck bed, or that spilled in the vehicle during disposal.
